The Mixtape 9: Galya Chikiss

Our ninth mixtape comes from St Petersburg’s Galya Сhikiss, an underground singer-songwriter and producer. She has released three albums with her band Chikiss (the latest was Don’t Be Afraid in 2013), moving gradually from a youthful indie sound to thoughtful ambient. In her mixtape for The Calvert Journal, Chikiss has captured the fragile transition of the seasons. A gentle piano line leads the listener from the wintry first half into a calm but hopeful new spring.
