Ivan Brazhkin

Ivan Brazhkin has well-established credentials with a father and brother who are both well-known artists. This year, his work, which spans video, installation, graphics and sculpture, was exhibited in the 4th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. Rebel Karaoke (2011), a video installation, shows recent political demonstrations and strikes in Russia and around the world recorded as a karaoke video, with the crowds’ chants reappearing as text at the bottom of the screen that visitors can repeat and mimic. A single microphone stand in front of the video allows the public to momentarily participate and blend in with the crowd, to assume a political identity as a temporary costume.
