What is it like to live off the grid? And how do you find people so far removed from society? For Escape, Danila Tkachenko, who had grown up in Moscow, searched for individuals who had withdrawn into the Russian and Ukrainian wilderness, and have lived more than a decade alone. While the portraits are staged, the lush, secluded surroundings couldn't be more natural — Tkachenko draws attention to the different ways these men have made a home for themselves with nothing but their bare hands.
