VCCA

Nikolay Alekseev, director and co-founder of Voronezh Centre of Contemporary Art (VCCA), thinks that “being an artist from Voronezh has become something of a brand in the recent years.” Every now and then a new artist from the so called “Voronezh wave” participates in a major international biennial or receives a prestigious prize. The thriving arts scene largely revolves around VCCA which was founded and hand-painted by four local artists back in 2009: Nikolay Alexeev himself, Ivan Gorshkov, Arseny Zhilyaev and Ilya Dolgov, each of whom have since been exhibited at major galleries and museums in Europe.
