Tbilisi City Hall has announced new plans to transform the city’s TV tower into the capital’s latest tourist attraction.

Standing high above the city on Tbilisi’s Mount Mtatsminda, the tower has become one of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks. Spanish architecture firm Coco has been contracted to research the building’s potential revamp, including opening the tower to the public.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze also announced potential plans for a nearby “Radio City”, aimed at drawing more people to the area.

The plans come as part of an ongoing drive to boost the country’s tourism industry ahead of economic development talks with the EU later this year.
