The works of the finalists of the Kandinsky Prize, one of Russia’s leading contemporary art awards, have gone on show today at the Udarnik cinema in central Moscow. 37 finalists were shortlisted from over three hundred applications. The artists compete in two categories — one for young artists under 35, one for more established practitioners.

The prize, which was established in 2007 and honours artist Wassily Kandinsky, is adjudicated by a jury of Russian and international experts. Last year’s prize 40,000 euro main prize was won by Krasnodar group ZIP, for their work Utopia Factory.

Udarnik was built as a cinema and theatre in 1931. It has functioned as an art gallery since 2012.

The exhibition will run until 10 November.
