Moscow metro launches virtual library with QR-codes

Moscow’s smartphone and tablet users can now enjoy access to over 100 works of Russian literature, courtesy of a new virtual library project launched today on the city’s metro system. Over 30 posters with QR-codes are now hanging in underground stations, giving commuters access an array of Russian classics including works by Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Chekhov and Bulgakov. Posters with the QR-codes are currently at several of the city’s busiest metro stations, including Belorusskaya, Krasnye Vorota and Dinamo stations.

The project is still in its trial phase, with developers expecting to launch the full version of the virtual library from mid-October. The metro’s press department has said that placement of the posters is currently being tested, with posters slated to appear in the train carriages themselves in the future.
