Two Siberian tourists taken to court after practicing parkour on the Acropolis

Two Siberian tourists were taken to court in Greece last week after the pair damaged part of the Acropolis of Athens while practicing parkour — urban freerunning which uses urban territories as obstacle courses. The duo ignored calls from a guard to stop, continuing their acrobatics until a chunk of the wall crumbled, causing several stones to collapse, according to Greek media. One of the men was given a suspended 30-day sentence and the other cleared of all charges.

Russia’s Central Bank releases two new coins celebrating the annexation of Crimea

Two new coins each worth 10 roubles ($0.25) have been released by Russia’s Central Bank this week in celebration of Russia’s annexation of Crimea. Both coins bear images of the peninsula, the words “Russian Federation”, and the date 18 March 2014, when the treaty of annexation was signed by the Kremlin.

First “anti-alcoholism” walk to take place in Kazan

The first “anti-alcoholism” walk will take place in Kazan’s Gorky Park this Sunday, as part of a regional anti-drug project. The event will involve team members of bikes, rollerskates and scooters, motivational chants and poems about the dangers of alcohol, and putting up posters promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Rock musician Andrei Makarevich has another gig cancelled

Another concert from Russian rock musician Andrei Makarevich, this time in Perm, has been cancelled, marking the latest in a string of cancellations to a concert programme scheduled to run across Russia. The veteran musician, who founded Russia’s oldest still active rock band Mashina Vremeni, was recently dubbed a “traitor” by St Petersburg politician Vitaly Milonov, due to his pro-Ukraine stance. The musician played a concert for displaced Ukrainians in the east of the country last month, which is widely considered to have sparked an unofficial campaign to disrupt his career.

Russian version of British TV series Luther set to air in Russia next year

A Russian version of the famous British TV series Luther is set to air on Russia’s Channel One in 2015, following an announcement at St Petersburg’s media forum last week. Shooting for the new series, which will be named after its protagonist, Klim, is currently underway in St Petersburg, with the series comprising eight episodes. According to a producer of Klim, the show and its protagonist will be kept as close to the original character as possible.
