Buildings from Romania and Poland are among the 40 projects shortlisted for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture 2015. An apartment building in Bucharest along with three public cultural institutions (two museums and a concert hall) in Poland, were chosen from 420 original nominees. The Urban Spaces Dogarilor Apartment Building in Bucharest and Poland’s Silesian Museum, the Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, are competing in the residential and cultural categories respectively.

The five projects shortlisted for the next round will be announced at the end of February, after which the architects will present their projects before a jury in May. There will be two eventual winners — an international design award and an emerging architect prize, both to be announced at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.

As part of the decision process, jury members will visit each of the five finalists’ designs to engage with occupants and users to get their feedback on the buildings.
