Russian billionaire and Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich has invested $15 million in Music Messenger, a mobile app allowing users to send music to each other free of charge. The oligarch joins a number of other well-known investors, including ABBA’s Benny Andersson, artists Will.i.am and David Guetta, and Nicki Minaj’s manager Gee Roberson, who together have invested $35 million in total.
Co-founded by Israeli internet entrepreneur O.D. Kobo, the app allows users to generate a number of their own playlists and send music to other mobile phones which have the app for free. The app, which is reportedly attracting 1 million new users each month, is widely used as a promotional tool by the music industry as a means of introducing new songs to users.
Music Messenger is tipped to launch in China this summer.
