The Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan has proposed an annual Kyrgyz Yurt Week.

The purpose of the event will be to preserve and popularise this key element of Kyrgyz tradition, which was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Ministry has suggested that the week-long celebration of the yurt should take place annually from 30 August to 5 September, in the capital, Bishkek, in its first year and in cities throughout Kyrgyzstan in subsequent years.

It is estimated that Kyrgyz Yurt Week will cost 3 million som (approximately US$48,000) to organise. The draft decree regarding the event has been put online by the Ministry for public discussion.
