Kosovo has nominated Visar Morina’s Babai (Father) for the Best Foreign Language Film prize at the Academy Awards.

Following the story of an abandoned ten-year-old boy who attempts to follow his father to Germany, Babai is Kosovo’s most expensive movie ever, with a budget of €1.7 million (approx. US$1.9 million).

Only Kosovo’s second entry for the Academy Awards, Babai is written and directed by Kosovo-born, Germany-based Visar Morina, and is a co-production between Kosovo, Germany, France and the Republic of Macedonia.

Morina picked up the Best Director Award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in July for Babai, while the film also won three prizes when it premiered at the Munich Film Festival, receiving awards for the best script, director and actor in the New Talent section.
