Prime Minister of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, has stated his desire to welcome Western celebrities to obtain residence in Crimea and create a “new Beverly Hills” on the peninsula.

Mr Aksyonov, who has been the Prime Minister of the disputed Republic of Crimea since 2014, made the statement in an open letter, which was written in both Russian and English and reprinted by the Russian newspaper Izvestia.

“If honored stars wish to settle in Crimea they are absolutely welcome,” reads the letter. “If they decide to buy any realty here, to domicile, or to come on vacations, they won’t face any administrative or other barriers.”

In the letter, Mr Aksyonov also promises “assistance” to celebrities who wish to find suitable property. He makes reference to particular celebrities who have recently expressed an interest in gaining Russian residence or even citizenship, such as boxer Roy Jones Jr., who was granted Russian citizenship by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, and Limp Bizkit lead vocalist Fred Durst.
