British curator Nadim Samman has been appointed curator for the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, which will take place in summer 2016.

The 32-year-old, who co-curated the 4th Marrakech Biennale in 2012, was presented today by Ekaterina Kibovskaya, commissar of the biennale.

The theme, proposed by Samman, will be “Deep inside”:

“[...] The poetry of escape grows ever more seductive. Lust for an absolute outside powers fantasies of emigration to unspoiled beaches, and exotic schemes to colonise Mars. But what if such visions are traps and not escape? What if the ticket price is too high?” Samman said of the theme.

The Moscow International Biennale for Young Art aims to support and encourage artists and curators of the new generation, and will feature participants of up to 35 years of age. It will take place from 1 July – 10 August 2016. The main project will be held at the Trekhgornaya Factory, one of the oldest textile factories in Russia.
