Animation festival to screen more than 100 new works

A festival of Russian animations produced over the past year opens today in the historic town of Suzdal, west of Moscow, with 104 films scheduled for screening including 30 debut works.

The festival is the only competitive animation festival in Russia with awards given in two categories: best auteur and best feature length film. For the first time, the festival will also include an industry-oriented pitching session.

Last year, the festival marked a century of Russian animation by announcing the 100 greatest works of all time. The winner was Eduard Nazarov’s Once Upon a Time There Lived a Dog. Second place went to Hedgehog in the Fog, which was named the world’s best animation at the Laputa Animation Festival in Tokyo in 2003.
