A Soviet-themed shopping centre has opened in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, to mark the anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

Named the “Leningrad”, the mall combines the normal features of a modern shopping centre with Soviet-style decoration and relics of socialism, including posters, a cadet marching band and uniforms worn by staff members. The shopping centre’s location on Lenin Street in the Lenin District also adds to the sense of Soviet nostalgia.

The shopping centre, which specialises in household furnishings, opened on 6 November with an inauguration ceremony attended by local government representatives.
