Russian media watchdog congratulates Wikipedia on 15 years

Russian media watchdog Roskomnadzor has congratulated Wikipedia on its 15th anniversary, gifting the company a birthday cake.

Roskomnadzor announced the present in a post on its official Facebook page.

“We congratulate Wikipedia on its birthday and give [Wikipedia] a ‘Collective Intelligence’ cake,” read the message, accompanied by a photo of the cake, on which is iced “Wikipedia – 15. From Roskomnadzor with love!”.

The online encyclopedia is one of the numerous websites, including Twitter and Facebook, to find itself under scrutiny from Roskomnadzor in recent months. For example, in August 2015 the media watchdog temporarily blocked the Russian language version of Wikipedia.
