Russian Cinematographers’ Union seek to open House of Cinema to all

The Russian Cinematographers’ Union will seek to widen access to the House of Cinema (Dom Kino) in north-west Moscow.

According to first deputy chairman Oleg Ivanov, all citizens should have access to the cinema, which will be open to anyone who wants to buy a ticket. Mr Ivanov noted that up until now, the House of Cinema has been run somewhat like a club, with some rooms being used almost exclusively for internal Union events.

“According to the plans [...] we want to open the doors of the House of Cinema to all citizens. From this year we will run a ticketing regime and will invite young students and ordinary residents of Moscow under quite favourable terms,” said Ivanov, referring to the cheap ticket prices and concessions available.

The House of Cinema is a well-known cinema and venue that hosts numerous cinematic forums, shows, recitals, workshops and conferences. Among other events, it plays host to the congress of the Russian Cinematographers’ Union, which is headed by prolific Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov.
