Alexander Sokurov’s Francofonia to open Moscow’s 2morrow Film Festival

Moscow’s 2morrow (Zavtra) Film Festival will open this evening with Alexander Sokurov’s Francofonia.

As the film’s general release will not take place in Russia until March, the 2morrow Film Festival constitutes a key opportunity to see it in advance.

Named best European film at this year’s Venice Film Festival by the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean (FEDEORA), Francofonia deals with the preservation of works of art in the Louvre in German-occupied Paris in 1940. Sokurov infuses the narrative with reflections on the place of art throughout centuries of history, and combines narrative drama with elements of documentary cinema.

One of Russia’s leading independent film festivals, the Moscow 2morrow Film Festival, this year held in collaboration with the Museum of Moscow, will take place from 26 – 31 January. More information and the full screening schedule can be found on the festival’s website.
