Russian street food bar to open in London’s Soho

Zima, a Russian street food bar, is set to open in London’s Soho at the end of the month.

Located in the basement of a Soho townhouse, adjacent to the legendary jazz club Ronnie Scott’s, Zima is the creation of chef, restaurateur and TV presenter Alexei Zimin, who is well known in his native Russia.

The street food bar and kitchen will open underneath Jean Jacques, a French style restaurant owned by the same Russian hospitality group, Table Talk.

The bar is designed to be reminiscent of a Soviet-era “ryumochnaya” (vodka bar) and will offer vodka infusions flavoured with basil and strawberry, fennel and tarragon, and lingonberry and apple with curry leaves. Taking its name from the Russian word for winter and Mr Zimin’s nickname, Zima will also serve a range of food, including such dishes as crab claw with bread crisps and red caviar, black caviar with traditional side dishes from Yaroslavl, and “Medovik” honey and sour cream cake.

Zima will open on 31 March at 45 Frith St in London’s Soho.
