Moscow is set to spend 85,941 million rubles (approx. US$1.3 million) on ensuring sunshine for the 1 May Spring and Labour Day holiday in the Russian capital.

According to the Moscow government’s online portal, the dispersing of clouds will be carried out by a single contractor, while the funds will come from the Moscow city budget.

May 1 was an important public holiday in the Soviet era, known as the Day of the International Solidarity of Workers. In 1992 the Russian Parliament renamed the holiday Spring and Labour Day.
