Uzbekistan looks to launch national cinema network

Uzbekistan is considering a proposal to open cutting-edge cinemas in each of the country’s regional centres, as well as a network of 1500 cinemas based in the existing auditoriums of lyceums and professional colleges.

The suggestion was discussed at the last meeting of the “Uzbekkino” Arts Council. According to experts, the use of assembly halls will speed up the process of creating a national network of cinemas. It is anticipated that the first stage of the project will see 250 such cinemas created, with the continuation of the project resting on the success of these first cinemas.

It was also noted during the meeting that many auditoriums will need to be adapted for purpose, while the proposed state-of-the-art regional cinemas should have several screens and be fitted with foreign-made equipment in order to show films in the highest quality.
