Naked by presidential decree: Belarus strips down at work

Belarusians have responded enthusiastically to President Alexander Lukashenko’s appeal for citizens “to get undressed and work till you sweat”.

In the days following the president’s speech, many reacted in a very literal and public way: posing for photos at their workplaces in the nude, and posting the pictures on social media with the hashtag #getnakedandwork.

Is this what Mr Lukashenko, who is informally called Daddy (Batska) by some Belarusians, had in mind?

Office nudity is not just a Belarusian affair, however, with the hashtag being picked up in Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic states.
