Russia’s answer to Leonardo DiCaprio wants to sell you vodka

Russian Leonardo DiCaprio doppelgänger Roman Burtsev is making the most of his newfound fame – check out his acting debut in this new vodka advert.

The advert’s voiceover alerts us to the fact that everything we’re seeing is fake – fake Leo, fake BMW, fake model girlfriend – but reassures us that reality can be found in Five Lakes (Pyat Ozer) vodka. The end of the advert sees Burtsev rowing off into the distance on a misty lake, Revenant-style, accompanied by the vodka.

Emergency services officer Burtsev made waves earlier this year when Russian coverage of the Oscars focused on DiCaprio, with local media quick to thrust their local lookalike into the spotlight. He originally shot to fame when Russian news site Gazeta published an article noting the similarities between a (then unidentified) and Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

We’re just not sure what’s real anymore, but are nursing a glass of Five Lakes’ finest in the hope of clarity…
