Ljubljana installation measures blueness of the sky

14 July 2016

The Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, has welcomed The Cyanometer, a monument that measures the blueness of the sky.

Created by Slovenian artist Martin Bricelj Baraga, The Cyanometer works by capturing images of the sky, which are then translated into fifty-three shades of blue. Connected to Ljubljana’s air quality measurement station, software uses the images to detail air quality, as well as display the temperature and current weather conditions.

The installation aims to draw attention to the issue of air pollution. Users can either read the measurement when walking past the installation, which is located on Ljubljana’s main pedestrian street, or follow the readings online.
