The Moscow city authorities have revealed that they will launch their own version of Pokémon GO, allowing Muscovites to “catch” figures from history in the streets of the Russian capital.

The app-based game, called “Discover Moscow.Photo”, is due to be available in August and will use similar augmented reality technology to current gaming craze Pokémon GO, with characters appearing on-screen against real-life backdrops.

“By the end of August, people will be able to catch and take a selfie with Viktor Tsoi, Yury Gagarin, Alexander Pushkin, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Mikhail Lomonosov, Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte and the tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich,” read a statement on the Moscow government website, posted today.
