The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has weighed in on the Pokémon GO gaming craze by offering safety advice.
In addition to developing a set of safety instructions, the Ministry wants to run masterclasses on catching Pokémon safely.
“On the one hand, this is an interesting and modern game, but on the other hand, hundreds of thousands of people are at risk as they are disconnected from reality and not paying attention to traffic lights and pedestrian crossings,” Ministry head Vladimir Puchkov stated, adding that problems are bound to occur when “thousands of people gather in one place”.
This is not the first time that the Russian authorities have stepped in to keep citizens safe in the wake of popular crazes — last year the police attempted to teach on the importance of selfie safety.
