Moscow ditches tanks for fire engines in unusual parade

13 September 2016

We’ve become somewhat used to seeing images of Russia displaying its military might in epic parades, but on Moscow City Day tanks and soldiers made way for fire engines and bus drivers.

The unusual parade on 11 September saw buses, patrol cars, ambulances and fire engines, along with other vehicles essential for the smooth running of the city, cruising in majestic style around Moscow’s Garden Ring. In addition to those familiar to contemporary Muscovites, the parade featured a number of retro vehicles.
