Play Poland 2016, a film festival celebrating Polish cinema and art in cities throughout the UK, opens this Thursday.

This edition of the annual event will see screenings of renowned Polish films and a series of accompanying events take place in Edinburgh, London, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Leicester. These principal screenings are accompanied by more than 50 short films presented in collaboration with leading Polish festivals, studios and film schools, as well as a series of events, including workshops and meetings with artists and directors. In addition, the festival will present an exhibition of Polish cinema posters.

The event kicks off in Edinburgh this Thursday with a screening of the award-winning 1987 film Blind Chance by director Krzysztof Kieślowski.

The founder and main organiser of the festival is Polish Art Europe, a non-profit organisation based in Edinburgh.

Play Poland 2016 will take place from 20 October – 26 November. More information and a full schedule of events can be found on the festival’s official website.
