Hollywood star Steven Seagal granted Russian citizenship

Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted American actor and director Steven Seagal Russian citizenship, according to a decree published today on the official web portal of the Kremlin.

A number of other western celebrities have gained Russian citizenship in recent years, including American boxer Roy Jones Jr. and prolific French actor Gérard Depardieu.

Mr Seagal also received Serbian citizenship earlier this year, which he allegedly requested because of his plans to develop the country’s film industry.
