Across the Caucasus: artists come together for Tbilisi exhibition

Tomorrow Tbilisi sees the launch of Across the Caucasus, an exhibition of five artists from the the region exploring experiences of post-Soviet reality.

Taking place at the Ioseb Grishashvili Tbilisi History Museum, Across the Caucasus will showcase works by Taus Makhacheva from Dagestan, Aslan Gaisumov from Chechnya, Azerbaijan’s Ali Hasanov, Vahram Aghasyan of Armenia and Georgia’s Vajiko Chachkiani.

The exhibition brings the artists together from across the region in order to present their diverse experiences and impressions of political and social transformation since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Award-winning artist Taus Makhacheva is among the expert judging panel for Calvert 22’s New East Photo Prize. She will be taking part in the upcoming New East Photo Weekend – tickets for the weekend and for her individual session on “How to Create a Multimedia Installation” can be purchased here.
