Lawmakers in Russia’s State Duma have rejected Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky’s annual report.

The deputies complain that the report fails to give a representative picture of Russian culture as a whole, centring on events organised by the government. In addition, they bemoan Medinsky’s focus on 2015, rather than 2016.

In a statement to news agency RIA Novosti, deputy chair of the parliament’s culture committee Yelena Drapeko claimed that Medinsky needs to produce a “fresher” report. She also accused the ministry of failing to do on-the-ground research, and suggested that they make visits to recreation centres and concert halls.

The report has now reportedly been postponed until the spring.
