Rapper Timati reveals Ramzan Kadyrov’s lavish lifestyle in private jet gaffe

Russian rap star Timati unwittingly let slip that Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s lifestyle might not be as modest as he likes to make out — maybe the rapper will think more carefully next time he posts on Instagram.

Mr Kadyrov is something of an Instagram star, commanding over 2.5 million followers. The head of the Chechen Republic typically likes to give his fans a glimpse into his hard work and meetings with famous friends, but generally holds back on photos depicting extreme luxury or wealth.

Mr Kadyrov’s humble facade became fraught with danger yesterday, when Timati shared a photograph of himself reclining on a bed inside what looks suspiciously like a luxurious private jet, with the caption: “When you’re kicked out of the house the day before 8 March [International Women’s Day], Ramzan Kadyrov always has a spare room for you.”

The post swiftly disappeared after it was spotted by Anna Vellikok of Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, who took inspiration from the revealing photo for her reply: “[That feeling] when you’re [Ramzan] Kadyrov and you try not to advertise all your belongings, and Timati goes and shares photos of the interior of your private jet.”
