Beat the crowds on these three New East beaches

21 March 2017

Looking for an early summer seaside getaway? British newspaper The Telegraph has named three eastern European destinations among its top beaches for a tranquil break before the crowds descend.

Titled 20 deserted European beaches you must visit in May, the article suggests beaches in Albania, Croatia and Montenegro.

Coming in at number 14 is Ksamil beach, near Saranda in southern Albania. From the charming bay and village at Ksamil you can take a boat or swim to the nearby Ksamil islands. This area boasts some of the most unspoiled beauty in the whole of Albania, with stunning peaceful beaches and tranquil waters.

Representing Croatia at number 16 is Verige Bay on the largely uninhabited island of Veliki Brijun — look out for the remains of a spectacular Roman country villa behind the beach.

Or perhaps you’ll go for Velika Plaža, near Ulcinj in southern Montenegro. The sandy beach is the longest in Montenegro at 12 km long and is a hotspot for kitesurfing.
