Having released a somewhat patronising guide to appropriate behaviour for new arrivals earlier this year, the Moscow city government has now launched an online video game to help migrants with the dos and don'ts of life in the Russian capital.
While the previous guide is narrated by a host of traditional Russian fairytale characters, the new quest game lets players take on the role of a migrant navigating his way through Moscow.
According to Vitaly Suchkov, head of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations, the game helps newcomers to “check how well they know how to achieve their goals while acting within the framework of the law”. Talking to the Moskva news agency, Mr Suchkov expressed his hope that the game would improve safety in the city and reduce the number of illegal immigrants.
Will this seamless fusion of gaming and helpful (and not at all condescending) social education be the future of integration? Play on to find out.
