Latvia changes Eurovision backdrop after penis polemic

Latvia’s entrants for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, taking place in Kiev this week, have had to make changes to their staging after allegations that their chosen scenery featured a neon-painted penis.

After electropop group Triana Park had completed the first rehearsal of their track Line, fans took to the internet to point out the suggestive scenery.

It soon emerged that the image was meant to depict the top of Riga’s Freedom Monument, a 42m-high memorial honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence.

Changes have been made accordingly ahead of the contest, where Latvia will perform tomorrow night in the first semi-final. How will the Latvian act fare without its lewd lucky charm?
