Yekaterinburg designer crafts furniture from cardboard

30 April 2013

After growing bored of using traditional building materials, furniture designer Dmitry Litts and founder of Wishnya turned to cardboard instead. He looked to designer and architect Frank Gehry, the creator of the cardboard Wiggle chair, for inspiration. In the Sixties, Gehry developed the “edge board” by gluing several layers of corrugated cardboard together to create a material similar to plywood. From his workshop in Yekaterinburg, Lietz and the team at Wishnya use recycled paperboard and pulp purchased from a factory in the city, to create chairs, laptop stands, tables.
