Bucharest Art Safari opens on Friday

Art Safari, Romania’s biggest art event, opens on Friday in Bucharest.

Now in its fourth edition, Art Safari brings together over 100 art galleries, art dealers, museums and cultural institutes to showcase both Romanian and international art.

This year’s event will take as its starting point a central exhibition at Kretzulescu Galleries curated by Wim Waelput, the director and curator of KIOSK, a contemporary art venue in Ghent, Belgium.

Looking at Romanian art from a transhistorical perspective, the central exhibition “will offer an alternative to the conventional understanding of art history and emphasise narratives and perspectives that are often overlooked,” Waelput explains.

In addition to exhibitions, which will include a rich offering of multimedia, performance and video artworks, visitors will also be able to attend conferences, book launches and artists’ talks as part of the Art Safari Dialogue programme. Art Safari’s educational programme for children will include workshops in painting, sculpture and collage, and specially designed guided tours.
