15 June 2017

Following a crowdfunding campaign, Croatian startup Nearby Hostel unveiled the first ever mobile hostel last weekend at the Pannonian Challenge extreme sports event in Osijek.

Made up of Ivan Malić, Mihovil Grgurić, Tin Vidović and Vedrana Knez, the Nearby Hostel team seek to provide hostel-style accommodation that can be transported between festivals. Their initiative came about as a response to the high accommodation prices that often result from an increase in demand during events such as music festivals.

The first Nearby Hostel has four rooms and 12 beds, along with washroom facilities featuring “smart showers”, which use 70 per cent less water than a normal shower. Room are equipped with comfortable beds, a TV, lockers, a fridge and power outlets, and guests are able to make use of the hostel’s Wi-Fi. Keys are a thing of the past for Nearby Hostel customers, who can use their smartphones to unlock their room doors. According to the team, bigger mobile hostels are on the way.
