Baltic season kicks off at London’s Deptford Cinema

Last night southeast London’s Deptford Cinema launched its Baltic View season, the first in a series of three iconic documentary films from the Baltics.

Kicking off yesterday evening with Estonian director Jaan Tootsen’s The New World (2011), the story of a citizens’ initiative to transform a Tallinn neighbourhood, the Baltic View season continues on 10 July with Lithuanian doc The Green Musketeers (2015, dir. Jonas Ohman), which traces the journey of the Atgaja ecological movement from a hiking group to a critical foundation for the national revival movement. The last film in the series is Latvian director Ieva Ozoliņa’s emotional detective tale about the reappearance of a millionaire and the daughter who hoped to find him, My Father the Banker (2015). Following the screening on 20 July, Ozoliņa will engage with the audience in a Q&A session.

The creation of three Lithuanian film-industry professionals — Inesa Ivanova, Gabija Budreckytė and Daiva Ivanauskaitė — Baltic View is a multi-platform initiative aiming to promote a distribute films from the Baltic region.
