Amplitude No. 1: a beautiful photography zine from a St Petersburg publishing house

26 July 2017

Amplitude No.1, a stunning new photography zine consisting of ten books examining ten Russian photographers, has been recently published by Fotodepartment. Fotodepartment is a St Petersburg-based independent non-profit organisation with a focus on contemporary photography, particularly its public presentation and promotion.

Amplitude No.1 attempts to shed light on the personalities and projects of leading photographers in Russia today, with each book exclusively dedicated to individual artists, including Alexey Bogolepov, Margo Ovcharenko, Irina Ivannikova and Anastasia Tsayder.

An introductory essay, On Photography and Fundamentalism, by artist and critic Yury Gudkov is also included in the collection, exploring ideas around art and its expressive capacity in Russia today, as well as a problematisation of the present generation gap within Russian photography.

The series was published with support from the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, as well as the Foundation of Vladimir Smirnov and Konstantine Sorokin.

Whilst each 28-page book can be bought individually, the entire collection can be purchased through the project website.
