Czech brewery Aurosa has touched a nerve with the recent launch of its “beer for her” — an unfiltered, unpasteurised semi-dark lager delivered in a delightfully pink champagne-esque bottle.

“Aurosa was born to prove that women can succeed anywhere without having to adapt and sacrifice their natural femininity,” reads a statement from the company, alluding to the tyranny of pint glasses and green bottles that beer-loving women have long had to endure.

While the brand’s founder, Marina Smirova, contends that the beer is a “representation of a woman’s strength and a girl’s tenderness”, the drink has been less than well received, particularly by its target audience in the UK.

“How can my weak womanly hands possibly cope with holding the weight of a pint glass?” a British Twitter user posted.

“We are simply a brand that wants to offer beer in an elegant and beautiful bottle, something that has not been done before, for those women who want it and who’s [sic] lifestyle we fit,” Aurosa responded to criticism.

Despite the backlash, Aurosa has allegedly been well received elsewhere, with the drink preparing to enter the Dutch and Hong Kong markets.

Just in case this news has made you want to rush down to your local supermarket or off-licence, not so fast: at over £8 ($10) a bottle, these babies don’t come cheap.

“What’s next? #RoséForHim?,” quips The Independent.
