Follow of the week: bright and surreal Polish prints

8 September 2017

Illustrator Basia Grzybowska can inject some colourful weird fun into your Instagram timeline.

Grzybowska describes herself as the “creative spirit from Poland” and is currently based in Katowice where she works on her own art and commissions for media and publishing.

She says that in her art she pursues colours, shapes and emotions, and prefers to start each sketch by hand and never on the computer. Finding inspiration in children’s books, Grzybowska mostly uses primary colours, and the shapes are sometimes reminiscent of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

A style especially suited for those whose Instagram timelines are filled with sombre images of modernist tower blocks and concrete, Grzybowska can help you mix it up with her bright images of crooked animals and tender surreal portraits of women.
