Bring the beauty back into architecture with this new open call in Tallinn

6 November 2018

Architects fighting against “bland globalisation” are being called to submit their vision to transform an upcoming neighbourhood in Estonia.

The Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2019 are looking for designs that bring “dynamic and beautiful architecture” to the east side of Kopli, part of the Kalamaja area north Tallinn.

Judges want architects to create a neighbourhood of shared and private habitats, based around this year’s theme, “New Habitats, New Beauties”.

As well as receiving cash prizes, winners will have their work exhibited at the Tallinn Biennale between 11 September and 3 November 2019.

“The pursuit of beauty has ceased to exist as a leading generator in architectural design,” say event organisers. “[Beauty] makes us not only happier, but healthier. It is the architects’ creative role to bring new beauties to cities by substituting alienation with a wider palette of emotional involvement.”

Deadline for submissions is 16 January 2019. For more information, visit the Tallinn Architecture Biennale website here.
