New exhibition celebrates all things small

Small is beautiful, according to a new show at the Pobeda gallery in Moscow. The exhibition, a celebration of all things small, displays miniature photos taken by a group of international artists working in different mediums. German photographer Anna Skladmann’s polaroids of days out in the country and walks along the beach capture fleeting moments of happiness. Meanwhile Alexandra Catiera from Belarus experiments with multiple exposures for her black-and-white photographs, which have a distinct cinematographic style. Catiere, who studied photography in New York, worked as assistant to renowned photographer Irving Penn for a year.

The exhibition also features Russian-born Irina Polin, whose work comprises miniature objects within a variety of different frames. Her snow globe, for example, both mesmerises and immerses the viewer in the tiny universe beneath the glass. Jefferson Haymann’s installation explores the theme of nostalgia. His photographs of vintage mirrors and frames that picture the sea are timeless, visual treasures. Among Haymann’s fans are former US President Bill Clinton and actor Robert DeNiro. His work is also part of a number of public collections including at the MoMA in New York. The exhibition, Small is Beautiful, will run until 31 August.
