FACES&LACES, an expo dedicated to Russian streetwear and subcultures, is taking place in Moscow over the weekend of 8-9 June. This is 13th edition of the fair, which runs annually in Russia’s capital. This year’s, titled Subculture Genetics, concludes a trilogy dedicated to Russia’s subcultures.
The FACES&LACES programme explores the intersection between fashion, streetwear, music, contemporary culture, and trends. This year’s event will include world-renowned names such as NYC graffiti artist FUTURA and American rapper Lil Ugly Mane, but Russia’s emerging creative scene is still at the heart of the showcase.
The main showcase of local talent this year is curated by creative collective Russki Attrakction and includes Russian labels and interdisciplinary projects like DOPECLVBWORLD, Kislen’ko racing, Abu Blunt, Liars Collective, and ÖMANKÖ. Reflecting the local scene’s links to the global streetwear community, Russian label Volchok have collaborated with Pretty Poison, a bar and skate spot from Bali. Meanwhile, Kruzhok have dedicated their installation to the cult design and complex historical heritage of the Soviet sanatorium Druzhba.
The programme aims to spark discussion about streetwear and trends in the broader culture context: Blank Gangstudio will be exploring the history of merch and its appeal; while Moscow’s Rodchenko Art School has produced a special project looking at the nature of subcultures, their language and commodification in contemporary fashion.
FACES&LACES also provides a platform for the most intriguing new names in music, from rap acts like Boulevard Depo, 555ТРАКС555 and Працтал Фрактал to rock and garage bands like Sonic Death and sshhhiiittt!
FACES&LACES is taking part over 8-9 June at the two-level Aviapark parking lot on Khodynskoe Polye in Moscow. Find more information about the programme and purchase tickets from the official website.
