“The dignity of the individual is protected by the state”, says article 21 in the Russian Constitution.
Now, Moscow-based clothing brand Outlaw has dropped a new capsule collection celebrating the iconic quote, joining forces with Russian hip-hop station Studio 21 to launch limited-editon outerwear. The collab went live on 12 December, the same day that Russia celebrates the constitution each year with a national holiday.
“This is a rhetorical statement for us, as well as an invitation to reflect on how much our rights are respected and how much we are ready to protect our dignity ourselves,” the creators say.
Fifty anoraks made of hand-painted faux-fur and olive-coloured cotton with article 21 featured as a slogan on the back are on sale through a raffle via the @outlaw_moscow and @studio21ru Instagram accounts.
Artworks featuring the anoraks will also be printed on walls in central Moscow.
The political fashion project follows a summer of protests in the Russian capital ahead of local elections, which saw hundreds of young people arrested for participating in demonstrations.
