Retreat to the mountains: a cave-like resort sets out to be an oasis in northern Armenia

In the rolling green hills of Armenia’s northern province of Lori, a new resort is planned to provide a quiet refuge for travellers.

The plan for Loor Mountain Retreat, designed by the Beirut-based architectural studio Paul Kaloustian, is envisaged as a one-storey construction, featuring 20 individual suites, a spa, and an outdoor pool. Situated next to an existing local development centre, the site, which will have a reinforced concrete canopy roof, will provide rooms with window walls that look out across the expansive landscape outside.

The goal, Kaloustian says, is “to inspire the visitor with a desire to experience nature, to make them effortlessly discover new perspectives within the landscape and to reveal a world of poetry and sensitivity.”

Construction will start in May 2020.
