Instagram account @beautifulbratislava offers a local glimpse into life in the Slovak capital.

Featuring both iconic socialist-era buildings and turn-of-the-century art-nouveau and neoclassical architecture, @beautifulbratislava embraces the different layers of history that give the city its unique character.

You’ll also get acquainted with plenty of interior designs of public buildings, ranging from universities to theatres.

All photos on this account are taken by photographer Štekanko, who set up @beautifulbratislava five years ago. In addition to his images, he also organises virtual tours of spots closed to the public, including one 100-year-old pharmacy called Salvator, or an abandoned army hostel, Kukurica (have a look at them in the Story Highlights).

Although most of the photos on @beautifulbratislava are architectural, the account also features some occasional snippets of the city’s social and civic life.
