A new online art project is giving outsiders a glimpse into the colourful, hidden world of fashion designers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Curated by designer and stylist Anna Skorokhodova, and shot by photographer and journalist Julia Chernova, “Fashion Never Cries” combines photographs shot via Skype and interviews with designers in their own homes. Although taken at a distance, the photographs are telling and intimate, subtly revealing how young creatives can cope with financial and creative obstacles during times of crisis.

Twelve fashion designers from different cities in Russia and Belarus took part, including Jemal Mahmudov, the founder of the fashion label MD Djemal Makudhmov, Olga Yakubowitch, creator of the brand YAKUBoWITCH, and Nadezhda Yusupov, the founder of Speranza Couture, as well as other emerging creatives from the fashion world.
